Jia Jiang’s company, Rejection Therapy, wants to help you outcompete your cubicle neighbor, while also bettering your life outside the office.

Back in 2012, Jiang spent 100 days seeking out rejection in quirky ways (Hello neighbor whom I’ve never talked to, can I plant a tree in your backyard? Hey stranger in CVS, can I borrow $100?) in an effort to overcome his fear of it.
Three years later he has harnessed the fearlessness this challenge instilled in him to start his own company, Rejection Therapy, write a bestselling book, Rejection Proof, as well as launch a speaking career that led to one of the most viewed TED Talks of 2017 about his experience with the whole process.
After those three months, he had freed himself from the crippling fear of rejection. He found that most rejection was due to the simple fact that the request didn’t serve both parties’ needs and the only thing that stopped a ‘No’ from turning into a ‘Yes’ was asking “Why?” and proceeding accordingly.
So he stopped seeing ‘No’ as the end and starting viewing it as the start of negotiations. However, some ‘Nos’ were hard, cold rejection; but even that played a key role in coping with and overcoming rejection. He turned every dismissal into a lesson that he could apply to a future request.
With all of his newfound wisdom, he co-founded his company Rejection Therapy to help spread this new awareness through the Rejection card game and speaking events. He works directly with sales teams and recruiting firms to better their output by teaching them to be fearless when it comes to rejection. He focuses on the art of turning rejection into a conversation; one that can be negotiated into a yes. It’s all about finding solutions that work for both of you and in sales, nothing will close a deal like making the client happy.
It wasn’t until recently that Jiang fully took over the company and gave it a new direction.
Rejection Proof Sales
Coming from a sales background, Jiang knows the power of this fearless attitude in the industry. After shedding his fear of rejection and excelling in his sales position, Jiang had the confidence to start his own enterprise.
He saw how much these sales/recruiting workshops and his keynote speaking were changing people’s lives, and he knew he had to think much bigger. With the new year, he decided to expand Rejection Therapy to empower others and find their rejection-proof selves digitally.
He is currently working to make this “therapy” more accessible through a mobile app that will allow you to participate in a 100 Days of Rejection challenge built specifically for you. Jiang has seen Rejection Therapy lead to sales triumphs, new businesses, and even newlyweds who moved out of their comfort zones and into a life uninhibited by fear.
He wants to share this power with as many people as possible. “Think about a cross between P90X and Headspace,” explains Jiang. The app will boost your sales, and maybe even help you work up the nerve to ask your funny cubicle neighbor on a date. The app is in beta testing right now with its official debut on the near horizon.
